Dowds Group have carried out multiple projects across Craigavon Area Hospital. There were multi-phased refurbs of the Maternity Hospital, High Dependency, Critical Care Units and theatres.
The installation of a full new HV/LV site infrastructure, and undertaking new build works in the Bluestone Mental Health Unit, the new Paediatrics Hospital, and the Trauma & Orthopaedic Block. In particular, the works on the Theatre Refurbishment involved an extensive restoration of existing theatres and the construction of 2 new theatres as well as a new 22 bed recovery unit with isolation facility, new changing rooms, canteen facilities and a refurbishment of the Intensive Care Unit. Works in the Maternity Unit Extension provided six new delivery suites, refurbished the existing four and added a four bedded induction ward and three bedded recovery wards completed over nine phases.
Understanding the detailed logistics of how individual hospital departments operate was critical to this project. An example of this was the Maternity Unit Extension, a £2M M&E scheme which was carried out in a live 24/7 environment with patient safety and privacy of critical importance. There were more than 20 main work phases agreed as part of the overall programme. Communication was required on a shift by shift basis with the senior nurse in charge.
