Dowds successfully delivered the M&E package on the remarkable new building for Northwood Secondary School in Hillingdon, London. The London Borough of Hillingdon and the Education Funding Agency funded this £35 million development.
The new school building accommodates 1,050 pupils, it has three storeys and measures 9,800 square metres in size. In total there is 53 classrooms which include, science rooms, a science garden, specialist design and technology rooms, a large library, a large art room, sixth form study and social areas, special education needs room, a spacious sports hall and an outdoor learning terrace.
Coordination – our supply chain included 84 suppliers and 16 labour subcontractors. Our contracts team ensured very close coordination was upheld with all suppliers and labour, as all systems installed were networked together, along with the existing systems installed throughout the rest of the campus.
Logistics & Materials – Site logistics were a major challenge due to the location of the building site being in the city centre of Belfast, meaning there was no room for site containers to manage materials. We worked closely with Sacyr to agree on local drop-off points for materials and had a well-organised call-off system with our supply chain. This ensured our workforce was constantly provided with materials when required.
Our Ulster University team completed the full electrical installations to an impeccable standard and worked admirably through the challenging conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
