Project information

External areas of the contract consisted of staff and visitors parking, play areas, viewing gardens and a helipad for emergency services.

As with any critical care facility, the project was highly serviced in nature and involved a number of specialist installations including high-end HV equipment to service four HV departments and sophisticated M&E services for the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), an integrated room that performs disinfection on medical devices, equipment and consumables, necessitating a highly sterile environment.

Key challenges

Site logistics were a major issue as the large low-rise building was set on a 10-acre site with stores remote from the work area and canteen/office facilities remote from work area. We worked closely with the main contractor to agree local drop off points for materials and had a well-organised call off system with our supply chain to avoid where possible double handling of goods. We also worked closely with the main contractor to sequence our works to ensure we always had the proper supervision in place.
