Dowds delivered the M&E services on the Queen Mary University London – School of Mathematical Sciences Building. This project was designed and meet BREEAM Excellent. Our works were carried out in with handover dates being met despite challenging circumstances on site.
As well as high-quality teaching rooms there is a range of private and group study areas throughout the building – including dedicated study spaces for undergraduate and for postgraduate students – and a new social hub to give all members of the School of Mathematical Sciences a welcoming space to meet and relax.
We installed new plant throughout the existing building using specialists to ensure a flawless interconnection with the wider university campus systems. Logistics on this site were challenging due to working within a live environment. We overcame this challenge by carrying out contract lifts during evenings and weekends when fewer students/staff were on campus.
Commissioning activities were carried out in a phased manner to meet programme deadlines and allow the college to re-instate students & staff immediately after completion of each area.
The programme was handed over on time and on budget with constant communication with all parties and, in particular, the client’s estates team. This was achieved by regular weekly update meetings with discussions on all activities that could have affected the day-to-day running of the facility.
